What's Up in Bear Valley Springs?

Independence Day weekend was a joyous affair here in the valley. For one thing we were celebrating (a year late) the 50th Anniversary of the birth of this community. That celebration took place on Friday, July 2 at Cub Lake with a very large and happy turn-out.

The music by Warren Rabe was from the 70s, fittingly. Line dancing and hula hooping were the order of the day. Some of the youngsters were surprisingly skilled at the hula hoop craze.

On July 3 Cub Lake park thronged with people again, visiting the booths, the car show and enjoying even more great music, this time from a live band, Miles To Go. Of course, we cannot forget the hot air balloons, a much anticipated event each year, the 5k walk/run and the boat parade. On July 4 a happy crowd enjoyed the Independence Day Parade.

The BVSA election brought in two new members to the Board, plus re-established Butch Reyburn, the incumbent. The two new candidates were only three votes apart. Adam Tiefenthaler won at 703 votes. Dain Hurst received 700. Monique Herbst, meanwhile, had stepped down from her seat in April, due to selling her property here. That opened up a seat to be filled by appointment. The Board voted to seat Dain Hurst, as the votes were so close. Now we have a full Board, again, and we are looking forward to a good year.
