Caregiving has become a way of life for some of us.
My husband George, whom I help care for, and I have now engaged two amazing and loving caregivers to help out at home as health issues march on for us steadily.
There are many ways to find a caregiver – word of mouth was the way we found our angels. There are also caregiving groups in most communities, and most churches can refer, too.
Home Health Care programs (completely Medicare funded) are available for those about to be released from a hospital or skilled nursing facility. Before being released to go home, a referral to this program is essential prior to this important service being set up. The facility's social workers or case managers can help make this happen. George receives nursing care, physical and occupational therapy, and blood draws for labs in this way.
Those of us who are caregivers at home also need socialization and fun; essential for emotional resilience and well being. Naps are important, too!
Many in our community live alone without help and need a nudge. If you cannot help personally, please share the information in this article.
