Alano Club's sober New Year's Eve party

The Tehachapi Mountain Alano Club had a very successful Thanksgiving dinner and marathon meeting event. According to Alano Club president Jim Walker, "It was beautifully decorated" and "very well attended." The food was good and plentiful and the spirit of recovery and thankfulness was alive and well.

Too often for alcoholics and addicts, the holidays from Halloween through the New Year festivities are fraught with isolation, temptation and sadness. That's why it's so important to have a way to counter all that negativity with positive, cheery, and (most importantly) sober fellowship with like-minded people. It's good for people who have been in recovery for a long period of time to join in the merrymaking, but it's absolutely vital for those who are newly clean and sober to see firsthand that it's possible to have a wonderful time without the use of drugs or alcohol.

Walker said that the Alano Club is currently preparing for their New Year's Eve Extravaganza. They have a DJ coming and they're going to serve hamburgers and soda pop and chips all included in the suggested entry donation of $20. The money will help to defray the costs of the event, but as Walker said, "It's never about money. Everyone is welcome." There will be a 50/50 raffle and prizes – some of which have been provided by local donors and others that will be purchased by the Alano Club. It looks like it's going to be a lot of fun.

Walker is inviting anyone in the community. If you would like to attend a sober New Year's Eve party with people in recovery, please come down for a memorable and fun time.
