Chiropractic and your healthy lifestyle

Back Talk

Millions of Americans have not only found relief from back pain with chiropractic, but have also found it to be a natural drug-free approach to healthcare.

The 24 independent vertebrae in your spinal column allow your body to move, bend and twist during various daily activities. Perhaps more important, they help to protect the very delicate central nervous system that controls and coordinates every muscle, tissue and organ of your body. This is why the first step to an active lifestyle is a properly functioning spine.

When two or more of your vertebrae aren't functioning together properly, it is what many chiropractors refer to as a subluxation, or a misalignment. Subluxations are actually joint and nerve dysfunctions that can cause you to experience pain, discomfort, decreased mobility or other symptoms.

Joint dysfunctions in the spine may eventually lead to symptoms in other parts or joints of the body as well. This is your body's only way of telling you that something is wrong. Unfortunately, the absence of pain is not an indication of health. By the time symptoms and pain appear, the problem may have been present for months or years. The great news is that you can help prevent these types of symptoms and conditions with routine chiropractic care.

A question I often hear is "Are all patients given the same type of care?" The answer is, no, your adjustment is yours alone. There are actually three stages of chiropractic care.

Relief

If you are experiencing aches, pains and/or a decreased range of motion, I work to identify the source of the issue and eliminate the subluxation or joint restriction. Subluxations can get in the way of proper nerve communication from the brain to the body, often resulting in pain, weakness, loss of coordination etc. While you are seeking relief, I may recommend two visits a week until the symptoms are under control and you are able to resume normal activity.

Recovery

Just because pain and discomfort begin to subside doesn't mean you should stop receiving care. Muscle and nerve irritation may still be present even though pain may be gone. Recovery care works to support the body's ability to heal itself by maintaining proper communication throughout the body. I may ask you to exercise, change your diet, take supplements or other measures to complete the recovery.

Maintenance

This is the most valuable type of care. Maintenance keeps the process of repair or healing moving along. Maintenance detects problems before they become larger issues. This once-a-week care keeps you running right all the time. Most patients have no idea how good and well they can feel until they get the regular care that keeps everything running right.

So if you want to feel good and run right all the time, come in and get your chiropractic adjustment. It's the difference between good and great. My practice is open evenings and Saturday so you can get the care you need. You can book your appointment online at http://www.KevinBrownChiropractic.com. See you soon.
