Planning Commission Update
On April 11, the Tehachapi Planning Commission approved the architectural design and site plan for 37 condominium units to be constructed in five buildings on 3.6 acres at the northwest and southwest corner of Pinon and Curry Streets. Known as the Pinon Curry Condominiums, there will be 18 units on the north side of Pinon and 19 units on the south side.
The architecture is described by owner Diana Williams of Castaic as Craftsman style in a sage green color, "with a slight modern twist." The project is planned to include a children's play area, a picnic area with grilling stations, community garden, dog walking path and bocce ball court. A wall was planned around the development which the Commission asked to be changed to a 4-foot-high wrought iron fence with cement posts in order to discourage graffiti. When Commission Chair Kim Nixon asked if the units were two-story, Williams responded that all the units are on a single level with a plan to sell the bottom-floor units to seniors. Residential parking will be 1.5 spaces per unit with additional parking on the street.
Williams stated that their emphasis has been on affordability with the goal to limit 50% of sales to investors.
The Tehachapi Planning Commission meets on the second Monday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Tehachapi Police Department Community Room located at 220 W. C St.
