Ask the LDA

Did you know that more than half the people in the United States die without an estate plan? – not even a will!

The daily life here in California and in Tehachapi can be all-consuming. From finding a job that allows you to live here, to driving kids to and from activities, taking care of aging parents...on and on. Finding the time to create an estate plan can be daunting.

And what about the COVID-19 pandemic? Just goes to show you how unpredictable life can be. Life is short and certainly precious. So that just means, estate planning is very important...and does not have to be a huge chore. What does matter is that you take the time to make a plan before it is too late.

The hard part is deciding how your estate will distributed. Who will care for your minor children? Who will take care of your pets? What kind of legacy do you want to leave? What's the best way to avoid the cost and delay of probate?

Unless your estate is complicated or you are very wealthy, the actual estate planning documents and procedures are not that hard. A Legal Document Assistant, such as I, can give you concise information written by attorneys that will answer your basic questions. Then you would fill out a simple questionnaire that directs me to prepare the documents. Once I have all the information, I prepare the documents at your specific direction, you will review them and if all is the way you want it, we will make an appointment to sign the documents. I am also a notary public. And I will come to you if requested!

School will be back in session soon, so don't delay. Call me today for an appointment (661) 821-0494.
