Planning Commission Update
At their Oct. 10 meeting, the Tehachapi Planning Commission unanimously voted to give the Sage Ranch development an additional three months to file the Precise Development Plan for the first phase of the housing project that will be built on Valley Boulevard behind Tehachapi High School.
The Tehachapi City Council had approved the Final Master Plan and Tentative Tract Map 7366 in 2021. Once approved the applicant had one year to submit the Precise Development Plan for the first phase of the project. The developers of Sage Ranch asked for a three month extension and Development Services Director Jay Schlosser recommended the approval based on the fact that Sage Ranch spent the first six months of that year dealing with the lawsuit brought by Tehachapi Cummings County Water District.
"They are working on the project," said Schlosser, adding that they are allowed to advance the project until the court makes a decision. Sage Ranch has already purchased 50% of the water rights necessary for the development with the remaining 50% to be purchased from TCCWD. The Commission approved the three-month extension until Dec. 12.
Schlosser updated the commission on several projects they had previously approved. Work should soon begin on the RV park to be located east of Dennison Road, as well as on Mountain Top Storage on Tehachapi Boulevard. Four permits have been issued for new homes in the K. Hovnanian development near Curry Street and E. Orchard Parkway. The new Starbucks located in Capital Hills should be open in two weeks and Townplace Suites is now open.
The Tehachapi Planning Commission meets on the second Monday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Tehachapi Police Department Community Room located at 220 W. C St.
