Friends of the Tehachapi Library
The Tehachapi Friends of the Library are happy to welcome our library's new Branch Supervisor, Teresa Skousen. Some of you may have already met her, when she started at the library about a month ago. And she says she's already feeling like she's part of the community.
Community engagement is one of her goals for our library. She wants to continue to build on community activities that the library provides. Such as the weekly story time, Doodle Club or Lego Club. She would also like to provide a place where the community can share interests, like the current Yarn Club. As an advocate for continuous learning, Teresa would like the library to become a place where community members come to learn, and share, about mutual interests.
She personally has an interest in learning more about bookbinding, a skill she and her daughter have taken up, but acknowledges she has a lot to learn. So if you're interested in bookbinding or some other activity, let her know. Send her an email at [email protected], or drop off a written suggestion. With all the new responsibilities and getting to know the community, having something in writing will help her keep track of suggestions.
The Friends of the Library are here to help fund programming, mostly through the sale of donated books. One of the Big Book Sales is coming up on June 3. Mark it on your calendar! The sale will again have both vintage and special books alongside the popular Bag Sale (we're keeping it at $3 a bag for this sale).
There are many ways you can help, besides coming and buying books. One way is looking through your collection for books to donate. There's still time to bring them in to the library during normal hours. You can drop them off at the bottom of the stairs.
Another way you can help would be to volunteer with the sale. There is always room for more volunteers, especially for the book sales.
Please call or text (661) 750-2818 or email [email protected] to volunteer.
