On Aug. 5, the Salvation Army, in first-time collaboration with #LoveTehachapi, held their annual Back to School Clothing Drive.
With over 100 families visiting the Saturday morning drive, it's safe to say that the event was a huge success. Before doors even opened, families from all over Tehachapi and Eastern Kern queued in a line snaking around the corner of the building for an opportunity to receive free clothing and breakfast.
Carlos' Donut supplied over 200 breakfast burritos and #LoveTehachapi volunteers stuffed and handed out well over 250 backpacks to children in need during the two-hour event. Leftover clothing is typically bagged and sent to Mojave and Rosamond to be handed out to people in need.
In November the Salvation Army will be hosting two drives: a coat drive on Nov. 4 and a Thanksgiving basket giveaway on Nov. 20. Food and coat donations may be dropped off at the Salvation Army on 538 E. Tehachapi Blvd., open Monday through Friday, 8 to 11 a.m. and 2 to 5 p.m.
