Rotary Club of Tehachapi
On Saturday Sept. 16, 30-40 Tehachapi area students and friends gathered in Centennial Plaza to participate in a Walk for Peace, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Tehachapi and the Tehachapi Valley Healthcare District. An art contest was held in conjunction with the walk and the winning entries were on display prior to the walk.
Judy Trujillo from the Rotary Club met with all the participants before the walk. Participating in the walk were members of Interact Club from Tehachapi High School and Valley Oaks Charter, as well as friends and families. Many showed up with handmade signs promoting peace, love and hope.
Art contest entries were received from Heartland Charter, Jacobsen Middle School, Tehachapi High School and Valley Oaks Charter. The Best of Show award went to Serena Thornburg, a sixth grade student from Jacobsen Middle School. Other first place winners were Natanie Hollins (Valley Oaks Charter), Aurora Buttrey (THS), Lily Powers (THS), Alexandria Sheridan (Valley Oaks) and Lucas Bullard (JMS).
Assisting with the morning festivities were Rotary President Paul Kaminski, Tehachapi Valley Healthcare District CEO Peggy Mendiburu, TVHD Busniess Manager Lisa Hughes and TVHD Board Member Lydia Chaney.
