Tehachapi Valley Recreation & Park District
At the Oct. 17 meeting of the Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Park District Board, General Manager Corey Torres presented a Certificate of Recognition to the Tehachapi Rotary Interact Club and Girl Scouts.
Accepting the award for the group was leader and teacher Nena Thornburg and her daughter Serena. The groups spent several days of public service completing projects for TVRPD. They helped to spruce-up West Park by painting parking block and posts, and painted the gazebo in Central Park.
In other business, City Manager Greg Garrett informed the Board that the City did not get the grant that was hoped to finance the "undergrounding" of the drainage ditch that runs through West Park. Garrett said that the City will continue to look for other avenues through which to finance the project.
Tom Neisler, General Manager of the Tehachapi Cummings County Water District told the TVRPD Board that Nov. 14 will be the 50th anniversary of the day the first drop of water was imported to Tehachapi. The District plans to erect a commemorative plaque at Brite Lake in the name Bob Jasper who was District Manager of TCCWD for 42 years. Neisler said that Governor Ronald Reagan spoke at the dedication of Brite Lake and that he has invited the current governor to this event.
