What's Up in Bear Valley Springs?

Nov. 11 was, of course, Veteran’s Day. Our local veterans held their ceremony, commencing at 2 p.m. with a welcome and introduction by past commander, Martin Hernandez. The speaker for the day was Commander Bill Kritlow. He spoke about a Navy leader from the Revolutionary War. This leader was involved until his dying die.

During the induction ceremony, our most recently departed veteran was memorialized. John Pruden, a very active member of the Bear Valley veterans Association, left us on May 22. He left behind his dear wife, Susan, as well as lots of other family. Susan Pruden still lives in our community.

John Pruden, along with Jim Rice and Eagle Scout, Kyle Olivier, were instrumental in developing the familiar Veteran’s Memorial Site at Cub Lake. It was John Pruden’s mission to have a site to honor and remember departed veterans who have lived in our community. Four pillars hold plaques naming the veterans we have lost in the last few years. Each Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day the event is held. Martin Hernandez presented Susan Pruden with a bouquet of white roses. The service ended with a few sincere words by Jim Rice who worked with John Pruden to develop this site.

Memorialized on the program were sons of our Gold Star Families, Rick and Donna Zanutto, parents of Cpl Adam Zanutto, USMC and the parents of Sgt. Earl Victor Sigmund, U.S. Army.

Holiday Bazaar and Holiday Concert

Coming up very soon is our annual Holiday Bazaar, sponsored by the BVS Cultural Arts Association, held at the Whiting Center on Friday, Nov. 24 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 25 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

The annual holiday concert at the Whiting Center, performed by the Southern Sierra Pops, will be held on Dec. 9.

Bear Valley Springs is a private gated community in which the residents pay an annual association amenities fee. To visit, a non-member or non-resident must arrange with a friend or family member in the community for a guest pass that would permit them to engage in the activities. Guest passes will be checked.
