Barbara Jean Holland March 21, 1945 – November 21, 2023

Celebration of Life

Barbara Jean Holland (née Bernard), the life of the party, entered the world on March 21, 1945, in Los Angeles, and bid us farewell on Nov. 2 at the age of 78, in Bakersfield. Jean, the queen of smiles and merriment, left us with a legacy that will keep us warm for years to come.

Jean is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jack Ray of Tehachapi, her daughter Christine Ionna of Bakersfield and her son Michael James of Seattle, Washington. Jean knew how to turn any gathering into a joyous celebration.

Jean's journey began at Bakersfield High School, class of '63, where she aced the art of making friends and the fondest of memories. Later in life, she worked her magic as an Administrative Secretary at CCI, Tehachapi for 22 years, always keeping the office joyful with laughter.

In her quest for inner peace and faith in Christ, Jean found solace and inspiration at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where she harmonized with the congregation and spread infectious positivity.

Join us in a celebration of Jean's extraordinary life on Saturday, Dec. 16, at 10:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, located at 329 S. Mill St., Tehachapi. Let's join together and share stories that will remind us all of her laugh and smile.

In lieu of frowns and tears, let's honor Jean's memory with laughter and joy, and send contributions to the DAR, Daughters of the American Revolution, Bakersfield Chapter. She would want us to keep the party going and support the causes she held dear to her heart and soul.

As we bid adieu to our beloved friend, let's remember her infectious laughter, her energetic spirit and the joy she brought to our lives. Jean, mom, you've left us with a lifetime of laughter, and will forever carry your witty charm in our hearts. Keep the party going up there, and save us a seat!
