We are rapidly approaching Valentine's Day, and those of us in the floral industry have had this date on our radar for some time.
We are gathering extra vases, counting out flowers, pre-ordering from our wholesalers and trying to prepare as much as possible in advance. The hope is that the week of, and the actual day, is as manageable as possible and that we have the supplies needed during a week when supply and demand drives prices upwards.
Take red roses, for example – the most popular Valentine's Day flower, with millions of people in the U.S. alone trying to get their hands on them, dozens at a time, all in one day. Trying to keep the craziness to a minimum is a goal of every florist I know around this time of year.
So, if you plan to order flowers for your special someone this Valentine's Day, you can help us out the most by ordering ahead. This also helps you, as you get to have first choice of what we offer, rather than taking whatever is available closer to the day as supplies begin to run low.
All of that being said, let's take a quick minute to remind us all, those of us in the floral industry and those of you who are just trying to say I love you, the point of Valentine's Day is to focus on those we love. My hope for each one of you is that you are surrounded by loved ones, that you feel loved and that Valentine's Day is merely one day out of the year where you celebrate that fact. So, don't stress about the details. If you need flowers, we're here for you. Hug your people, love on those around you and have a Happy Valentine's Day from Blooms!
