Candid conversations on taboo topics at the Hippie

Hippie Talk

The second in a 12 part series on sex, love and intimacy will be held on March 5 at the Healthy Hippie Trading Co., located in Old Town, Tehachapi. This series is the brainchild of Hippie owner, Sarah Rose, but she gives credit for its inception to the community.

"I'm just here to give the people what they want," she said. "Be it tie dye apparel, healthy foods, metaphysical items...or a safe place to talk about taboo topics such as intimacy, sex and desire, and a place to purchase intimacy items."

Within the walls of the Healthy Hippie Trading Co. is an area dedicated to creating that feeling of safety while celebrating the divine feminine. That space has been aptly named Sarah's Closet.

"Once I decided to create this space, it felt like it needed a name, something that would honor the intention of the room. As I stood in the middle of the room, I had the thought that I wished I had a closet at home that looked like this and, viola, Sarah's Closet was born," she said.

As the space has continued to transform and more products are filling the shelves, Sarah felt called to do more than just sell lingerie and sensual items.

"Look, I am a consumer, too. I know that people can shop online for most of the things I sell on my shelves. But what you can't get online is open and non-judgmental input and advice on personal and private subjects. One of the biggest bonuses I got from my years as a Pure Romance rep were free college courses on the topic of human sexuality. It's a subject that I have long found fascinating. That interest, along with my lack of shame on the subject, has provided me with the ability to speak candidly on what many consider taboo topics. I'm not a sex therapist, or a therapist of any kind. What I am though is a 61-year-old woman who is willing to share my knowledge on topics and products in a safe and comfortable way," Sarah said.

That willingness to share is the basis for the 12-month series. During those classes, Sarah plans to discuss topics such as aging and sex, communication with your partner, sensation exploration, talking with your teen about sex, learning your own sexual style and more.

"I am open to topic suggestions. At this time, the sessions are women only. However, I am planning a month where women can bring their male partners," she said.

The March 5 event will be from 6 to 8 p.m., and will be a study of a book called "Your Blueprint for Desire" by Jaiya. Attendees will take a free online quiz to determine their pleasure style, as well as learning more about each style by watching a video clip featuring the author herself.

Class is $20, but if you bring a friend you'll both get $5 off. Books will be available for purchase, but that is not required. Sorry guys this class is for the ladies only.

Mark your calendars, RSVP and we'll see you at the Hippie, located at 20418 Brian Way, Tehachapi.
