In acknowledgement of their tireless dedication to their community, Kern County District Attorney Cynthia Zimmer, and Dayna Holmes, the Executive Director of the Care Pregnancy Resource Center in Tulare County, were recognized by Assemblyman Vince Fong (R-Central Valley) as the 32nd Assembly District’s 2024 Women of the Year.
“A prosecutor for 39 years, Cindy has dedicated her life to protecting our community. She convicted and put away rapists and murderers to keep us safe and has been on the forefront of policies to bring accountability to our criminal justice system including increasing penalties on human trafficking and retail theft,” said Assemblyman Fong. “Dayna Holmes’s commitment to families is unmatched, and our community is a better place because of her service. With kindness and compassion, Dayna has selflessly helped the women and families of Tulare County as the driving force behind the success of the Care Pregnancy Resource Center.”
As Kern County’s top law enforcement officer, Cynthia Zimmer has tried nearly every type of criminal case including narcotics, sex crimes and homicides. Zimmer has personally handled numerous high-profile cases, including those of Kerry Hastings, a serial killer; Billy Ray Johnson, the “Eastside Rapist;” and Corey Johnson, who killed three people, attempted to kill several others and whose gang trial was the longest in Kern County history. Zimmer is working to reduce violent crime in Kern County, provide better services to victims in rural areas, and reinstate accountability to end retail theft.
“I am extremely humbled to be honored by this prestigious award. It has been a privilege to fight for the rights of crime victims as a prosecutor for the past 39 years. I am grateful to Assemblyman Vince Fong, not only for this recognition, but for his unwavering support to keep families in our communities safe from crime,” Zimmer said upon learning of her recognition.
In Tulare County, Assemblyman Fong recognized Dayna Holmes for her work at the Care Pregnancy Resource Center. Holmes has a deep connection with and appreciation for the community. Holmes’ faith, strong family values and a passion to help women led her to her current role as Executive Director of Care Pregnancy Resource Center. What she loves most about Care Pregnancy Center is the safe place it provides for women and men to slow down, take a moment to breathe and think about what they believe about life.
“It is truly an honor to be recognized for this amazing award among such great women like District Attorney, Cindy Zimmer. This is a testament to Assemblyman Vince Fong’s commitment to build healthy families and communities. I am thankful for all those who are working to build a strong community for life,” Holmes said in accepting the recognition.
