The City of Tehachapi is inviting the community to attend the grand opening and ribbon cutting of four new pickleball courts located in the Tehachapi Police Department parking lot. The ribbon cutting will be on Wednesday, May 1 at 11 a.m. at the Tehachapi Police Department located at 220 W. C St.

The first 100 attendees of the event will receive giveaway items, including gifts from Selkirk Sport and Only Pickleball. The public is invited to try out the new courts alongside members of the Tehachapi City Council, city and police staff. Maria's Kitchen food truck will be there selling their tacos, tortas and more.

"I am excited that the City of Tehachapi recognized the need for pickleball courts in our community. This is the fastest growing sport in America and Tehachapi is filled with enthusiasts who travel to Bakersfield and the Antelope Valley to play. Now they can stay here in Tehachapi and enjoy these beautiful courts," said Community Engagement Manager Key Budge.

Pickleball is a multi-generational sporting activity enjoyed by all ages. The game is played with paddles and plastic balls on a court that is smaller than a tennis court.
