Tehachapi's Wind Festival: let's go fly a kite

Tehachapi celebrated the Wind Festival at Meadowbrook Park on April 20. "Old timers" may remember past wind festivals from many years ago. This year, the Greater Tehachapi Chamber of Commerce and Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Park District brought it back. This event was inspired by parkgoers flying their kites and the value of the wind to our city.

Vendors, food trucks and local businesses came out to showcase their products and services. Sim Sanitation donated kites to all the children attending and kite coloring stations were set up to personalize them. Wind energy booklets were offered with informational topics such as "Basic Wind Turbines," "Wind-What Is It?," and "The Winds of Time."

Tehachapi Police Department and Fire Department were on site, as well as Ten West Towing flying a large American flag from one of their tow trucks.

Performance by The Aerial Garden acrobatic team.

Performers from The Aerial Garden showcased their acrobatic skills for the crowd to enjoy. A DJ played music while children played on the playground, and people danced and mingled.

Evorlie, her brother Nick and their father, Nick Sr., cheerfully said, "We are here to fly kites!" Nick Sr. works in solar energy and added, "We enjoyed learning about wind and how it makes energy."

The weather couldn't have been more perfect with partly cloudy skies and just enough wind to fuel the kites to fly high in the sky for hours.
