With the help of P-Dubs restaurant, the American Association of University Women celebrated our 2024 award recipients at the scholarship dinner on June 2.
This incredible sampling from our community included Ella Jacobs and Tristan Marks, who were chosen by faculty at Jacobsen Middle School for their scholarship, attitude and high ideals. Six high school seniors were also recognized: Layla Mullins received the Edith Mae Hinkle Memorial Scholarship presented by Kathi Hinkle; Olivia Loyd and Prissy Sturz received AAUW scholarships; Davery Pogon-Cord received the Ron Morris Memorial Scholarship; Caitlyn Chitwood was introduced by Laurie Rude-Betts who presented her with the Ben Rude Memorial Scholarship; and Regan Rodriguez received the Sue Hansen Memorial Scholarship. Ashley Pogon-Cord received the Return to College Scholarship for applicants who either took a break before college or who have taken a hiatus from college.
After hearing acceptance speeches from each of these students, the crowd could not help but feel hopeful about the future. The group was focused, determined, passionate and faith filled. At times there was not a dry eye among the parents and friends in the audience.
Much gratitude goes out to our supportive community for prioritizing education and allowing us the honor of awarding these scholarships. We appreciate you and your choice to support these local students. A total of $11,700 was awarded.
We invite the young men and women in the class of 2025 to apply for scholarships!
