Rehearsing moments for The Best of Broadway at the BeeKay.

The Tehachapi Community Theatre Association (TCTA) brings their exuberant summer production: "The Best of Broadway" to the BeeKay Theatre.

You'll hear lyrics (sung by some of Tehachapi's finest voices) packed with life lessons and emotion-driven melodies woven into classic tales. You'll hear Simba tell how he is "gonna be a noble king and scrupulously fair, but only needs a little time and perhaps a little hair." Norma Desmond shares the mystique of "the whispered conversations in overcrowded hallways." The Phantom asks us to "Turn our thoughts away from cold, unfeeling light...and listen to the music of the night." And, of course, Monty Python reminds us to "always look on the bright side of life." There's much, much more. The well-chosen musical selections are aimed to engage, entertain and inspire.

This version of "The Best of Broadway" is co-written and directed by Opal and Guy Martin. Guy is also the show's musical director and well-known in the Tehachapi community as a liked and polished professional.

"TCTA has been one of my favorite groups to work with. The BeeKay Theatre is such an amazing venue here in Tehachapi. It is such an intimate theatre that allows the audience to be up close and personal with the stories presented by the actors. It's been a long and satisfying journey. And we have been fortunate to assemble an amazing and talented cast, to bring to life a wonderful and truly entertaining show!" Guy said.

The current production follows in the tradition of the first "Best of Broadway," conceived and directed by Christal and Jason Wheeler. Both husband and wife teams are also featured performers in this season's presentation. This year, Christal and Jason are joined by their daughter, Denise Miller. And speaking of the cast, the show also features Hailey Booker, Joanna Dillenbeck, Camryn Ferguson, Blaine Hartsock, Amy Kirk, James Kutch, Oona Lathrup, Rihana Medina, Todd Shuman, Sophia Smith, Brogan Trapp and Mikayla Weishaar. Opal enthusiastically expresses her delight "in the talent and wide range of vocal ability of our cast."

Live theatre is such a gift of give-and-take on both sides of the footlights. The more smiles, laughter and applause come from the audience, the more the players sparkle, delight and give back. Our cast feels said it is a thrill to be on stage and watch the audience come to life. So, make plans to take your seat at the BeeKay Theatre to experience the joy and excitement "The Best of Broadway" has in store.

P.S. The next show, "Deathtrap" is heavy into rehearsals and our Christmas season play, "Oliver!" is still auditioning. TCTA invites everyone to become a member and join our theatrical family. Check our website, http://www.tctonstage.com for updates.
