The Salvation Army to collect gently used clothing for children in need

The Salvation Army Tehachapi Community Center is helping to make the next school year the best school year for over 250 kids in Tehachapi by collecting school supplies, gently used clothing and other necessary items for families in need. The Salvation Army is providing free, brand-new backpacks for local students.

For kids preparing for the upcoming school year, school supplies remain critical to their success. The Salvation Army adapts its services all around the country this time of year to ensure that children in every community can continue receiving the educational support they deserve. The support from the community will ensure children have the supplies they need, whether online or in-person learning environments.

Families across the Tehachapi community continue to be greatly impacted as the prices of essential items rise due to inflation. Vulnerable families are being forced to choose between expenses like food, utility bills and purchasing school supplies for their children. The Salvation Army is partnering with the local community to serve those who may need assistance with purchasing school supplies, backpacks, clothing and other items needed for school.

Monetary donations, gently used clothing and new school supplies can be brought to The Salvation Army Tehachapi Community Center at 538 E. Tehachapi Blvd., during regular business hours.

The Back to School Giveaway will be on Saturday, Aug. 3, from 9 to 11 a.m. Supplies will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. For more information, please call (661) 823-9508.
