Rotary Club of Tehachapi
Over 60 seniors from the Tehachapi area gathered on June 6 to attend the annual Tea Party, hosted by the Rotary Club of Tehachapi. It was a day of style and elegance, as the participants donned fancy attire and fabulous hats for high tea served in the lovely shaded garden of The Woods Pavilion. The venue was elegantly staged with linens and china table settings.
Members of the Rotary Club of Tehachapi prepared and served all the food and beverages. As is the tradition, the high tea began with a variety of delicate tea sandwiches. The menu included traditional tea sandwiches, such as cream cheese with olives, egg salad, coronation chicken and tuna, but also included some more innovative offerings, such as turkey with cranberry, cucumber with pesto and pimento cheese. Rotarians circulated throughout the pavilion, some serving up delectable sandwiches, while others offered traditional English and herbal teas.
Once the sandwich course was completed, then the sweets were served. All the dessert items were prepared by Rotarians Linda Pettitt and Marian Stephens. Linda made lovely chocolate cupcakes with white frosting, topped with fresh berries. There were a variety of other delicious desserts, including delicate bar cookies in strawberry, lemon and berry; delicious cake pops in chocolate and carrot cake; and plenty of rocky road candy.
At the end of the event, prizes were awarded for Best Hat, Best Dressed and Most Senior Attendee, who was 89 years old. The event concluded with a drawing for many door prizes, donated by members of the Rotary Club and the community.
Linda Carhart, who was the chair of the event, said, "We thoroughly enjoy giving an opportunity for our seniors to socialize and spend an afternoon together. It uplifts us all to see these wonderful people coming together, enjoying good food, and sharing some fun and laughter in the company of their friends."
