Lorina Jane Powell (Qual) was born on May 11, 1948, in Bemidji, Minnesota. She passed away on April 10 in Bakersfield after 10 years of Parkinson's disease. She was a Tehachapi High School graduate, class of 1966. In her early years Lorina was a switchboard operator at the phone company in Mojave. She also spent time as a bookkeeper. Lorina was the founder of Western Graphics in 1981, which she successfully owned and operated until 2001. She loved antiques and was a vendor of many amazing antique pieces at Central Park Antique Mall.

Lorina loved going to the beach, especially in Santa Barbara, where she enjoyed State Street, the Pier and the Mission. She loved her walks on the beach and seeing the dolphins leap and play in the water. Lorina loved watching Westerns, as well as the television shows "The Waltons," "Survivor," "Mountain Men," "Dual Survival" and "Everybody Loves Raymond."

Her love for her children and grandchildren was unconditional and unbreakable. She enjoyed going to her daughter Lisa's volleyball games and she was always very proud of her son, David, whose military service in the Army included duties overseas during Operation Desert Storm.

Lorina is preceded in death by her father Kenneth Qual, mother Irene (Qual) Brasher, brothers Timothy Qual and Randy Qual and sister Margaret Shingler. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Larry Powell, son David Palos (Natalia), daughter Lisa Stephens, sister Penny DeHart, grandchildren Christian Palos, Isabel Price (Spencer), Canyon Stephens, great granddaughter Ida Marie Price, mother of grandchildren Elise Sotello and many nieces and nephews.

She was laid to rest at the Tehachapi East Side Cemetery.
