Since its establishment in 1969, Kelcy's Restaurant has been a cornerstone of Tehachapi's dining scene, celebrated not only for its wide collection of historic images and artifacts, but also for its commitment to hospitality and culinary diversity.
Often referred to as the area's second museum, Kelcy's blends nostalgia with innovation, ensuring there's something for everyone on its menu.
Recently, under the guidance of a new chef, Kelcy's has expanded its menu to include exciting Mexican food specials, such as authentic albondigas soup, Baja fish tacos and tacos Al Pastor alongside beloved classics like their renowned broasted (pressure fried) chicken. Regulars rave about its crispy exterior and tender meat, a testament to Kelcy's dedication to quality.
"No one knows about Kelcy's fried chicken," said a customer who overheard our conversation. "It's awesome! Crispy, tender chicken and it's not greasy at all. We always get the family pack with all the sides."
This summer, Kelcy's has elevated its offerings with fresh squeezed local orange juice, seasonal fruit pies like lemon creme, date milkshakes and refreshing treats at their soda bar.
Kelcy's commitment to community extends beyond the restaurant with appearances in their custom pop-up booth at local events like Farmers Market, the Thunder on the Mountain Car and Motorcycle Show and the Apple Festival. Kelcy's also caters to large groups with banquet services, providing a perfect venue for parties, seminars and meetings, such as Chamber luncheons and Rotary gatherings.
One of their proudest achievements this year was the restoration of their iconic neon sign on Tehachapi Blvd. and the revitalization of their rear parking lot and porch, enhancing the dining experience for patrons old and new. Owners Virginia Sheridan and Bill Lee are dedicated to Kelcy's inclusive atmosphere.
"Everyone is welcome here," Virginia said, highlighting Kelcy's efforts to accommodate diverse dietary preferences with vegan, vegetarian and traditional options available from breakfast to dinner. "From biscuits and gravy or huevos rancheros in the morning to cilantro lime chicken for dinner, there's something for everyone to enjoy!"
Kelcy's Restaurant isn't just a place to eat, it's a community hub where traditions are cherished, and new flavors are discovered.
Whether you're stopping by for a hearty breakfast, a quick lunch or a delicious dinner with friends, Kelcy's invites you to savor the taste of Tehachapi's history and hospitality, one dish at a time.
Kelcy's is located at 110 W. Tehachapi Blvd. It opens at 8 a.m. each day and closes at 8 p.m. most days of the week.
