Musicians are happy in Tehachapi

People in Tehachapi love music, as evidenced by the musical performances by groups and soloists during the Tehachapi Mountain Festival. Every weekend it seems there is somewhere folks go to hear all kinds of music from country and hip-hop to jazz and more.

There are also opportunities for individuals who would like to participate in some type of musical group. Some require more skill than others, but all welcome and courage new members. It is a chance to improve and enjoy one’s musical ability.

Tehachapi Symphony Orchestra is beginning their 26th season offering five concerts each year. Dr. David Newby has been the conductor for about 25 of those years. An audition is required to join the orchestra. See http://www.tehachapiorchestra.com for more information.

In conjunction with the Symphony, there is a Symphonic Chorus which sometimes performs with the orchestra. They will soon begin rehearsing music for “Messiah.”

T-Pops is a group founded by Debby Hand-Cutler many years ago. They welcome beginning, as well as experienced musicians of all ages. They play a wide-range of music which is a little easier to play than that of Tehachapi Symphony Orchestra. They are beginning a new season now and practicing for a Halloween show on Oct. 27.
