Tehachapi's Online Community News & Entertainment Guide
Despite the size of Tehachapi, one thing is for sure, Tehachapi is recognized in different parts of the world. Recently in Frankfurt, Germany, now in Boston, Massachusetts and a few weeks ago in my favorite island of Hawaii, Kauai.
I started my career in a small kiosk in the now closed Golden State Mall. I sold accessories alongside a makeup artist and I also worked at Taco Bell. One Saturday morning, a bride had an appointment for makeup at 11 a.m., but she showed up flustered at 9:30 a.m. because the hair salon down the hall wasn't open for her 9 a.m. bridal updo appointment and they were not responding. We decided to start her makeup while she waited to hear from the salon. By 11:15 a.m. her makeup was finished, with waterproof mascara, of course, and the salon was a ghost town. She held back tears as she didn't know what to do about her hair! She asked me to please style it and at that point she didn't care how good it came out, she just wanted something because it was the day of her wedding.
I ran to the Dollar Tree next door to buy bobby pins and the strongest holding hairspray I could find. I improvised because I wanted more than anything to help. I had some experience from selling flat irons in the mall so I did what I could and, by the grace of God, I created a beautiful hairstyle that somehow held up. The day was saved.
That day, 14 years ago, I learned that I had an innate ability and sometimes they come out in desperate situations. That was the moment that initiated my drive to style updos for people on their wedding day. Some may say, "it's just hair," but to that woman, it was for wedding pictures she would show her future children and grandchildren. As much as we would like to think hair is not important, it really is. So much so that when I colored my client Michelle's hair for her wedding in Kauai, everyone was speechless as her hair cascaded on the beach during a beautiful Hawaiian day. Her wedding was so beautiful, even a rainbow made an appearance.
Last Sunday, Chiseling Image Luxury Aesthetics was hired for a party of eight who flew in from Boston for a wedding right here in Tehachapi! The beautiful bride, Kayla, and her bridesmaids gleamed as they laughed and got their hair expertly styled be my apprentice and me. We later received a confirmation text that everyone had raved about their hair and that it had held up all night.
