The Healthy Hippie Trading Co. enters a new era

The Healthy Hippie Trading Co.'s Kim Durham-Ashton and Thorne Ashton (along with mascot Gemma) usher in a brand new era for Tehachapi's premiere "Spiritual Apothecary."

Nestled in the heart of Old Town Tehachapi at 20418 Brian Way, The Healthy Hippie Trading Co., affectionately known as "The Hippie," has been a vibrant hub for free spirits, fashion lovers and those seeking a deeper connection with themselves. Founded three years ago by Sarah Rose, the boutique was born out of a desire to bring back the fun and funky vibes of the '60s and '70s, offering a variety of retro-inspired clothing and plant-based snacks.

"I wanted to create a space that felt like a step back in time, but with a modern, healthy twist," Sarah reflects. And she did just that. The Hippie has become a community favorite, brimming with color, creativity and positive energy.

Now, after three years of nurturing this dream, Sarah is passing the torch to her employee Kim Durham-Ashton and Kim's husband, Thorne Ashton.

"I hired Kim just for the holiday season of 2022," Sarah explains, "but she proved to be such an incredible asset to me and the store that I knew I had to find a way to keep her. Kim's knowledge of essential oils, herbs, crystals and other metaphysical topics made her a powerhouse and a great resource of information for myself and our customers. With Kim's guidance, the Hippie has morphed into way more than I ever envisioned."

Kim and Thorne have already made their mark on the store by introducing "Sonic Alignments," unique binaural beats meditation sessions held twice a month, aligned with the new and full moons. Their vision for The Hippie includes continuing the eclectic fashion offerings while expanding opportunities for guests to explore transformative experiences through meditations, classes and private sound sessions, incorporating crystals and Reiki.

As for Sarah, she's taking this time to slow down and embrace the next chapter of her life.

"I'm going to spend more time being a grandma and just be open to wherever the universe leads me," she shares, thanking the community for their support. She encourages everyone to continue supporting Kim and Thorne, saying, "They have some great things planned!"
