United Methodist Church welcomes new pastor

Provided.

Tehachapi Valley United Methodist Church (UMC) has a new pastor, Rev. Harold Gordon. He is originally from Greenville, South Carolina. He served as a full-time pastor in the South Carolina Conference for 32 years before transferring to the California-Nevada Conference in June 2016.

He married his wife CeCe, on June 15, 2016, and on the next day, they loaded a U-Haul with all of their belongings, and drove to San Leandro, California. He served two years at Downs Memorial UMC in Berkley and six years at Jones Memorial UMC in San Francisco. CeCe ran her own esthetician business in San Francisco. ln 2020, the Lord blessed them with a son. In 2024, Rev Gordon was appointed to Tehachapi Valley UMC.

United Methodist pastors are typically appointed to serve a church for one year at a time, with reappointment common for 5-7 years. "Itinerancy is the system by which the Methodist Church moves its ministers from church to church so that at all times every preacher has a church and every church has a preacher..." (from Encyclopedia of World Methodism).

His family is settled in their home, their son has started transitional kindergarten and he is ready to launch our new youth program.

If you would like to hear him preach, visit the church at 20920 Schout Rd., on Sunday at 10 a.m. A fellowship time follows the service.

Please welcome him and is family if you should see them in town. I quote him here, "I believe there is nothing that we cannot accomplish together with the Lord on our side. In fact, now is the time, here is the place, and we are the people."
