Kimberly Ann Shanahan, 69, peacefully passed away on Sept. 9 after a long battle with dementia, in Belmont, California, in the loving presence of her daughter Erin Shanahan.
Kimberly was born on Nov. 5, 1954 to James and Patricia Waggoner in Hindsdale, Illinois. After graduating from Judson High Boarding School in Arizona, she moved to San Francisco where she attended SFSU and met her future husband, Mike Shanahan. Kimberly and Mike wed on May 8, 1977 in Las Vegas, Nevada. In 1986, they welcomed their daughter, Erin.
Kim was a devoted wife, mother and friend to many. She had a beautiful smile, a sweet soul and a contagious laugh. She was a significant part of the Teamsters, specifically local 856, and worked alongside Ron Carey and Tom Leedham in the 1990s. Kim was a candidate for International Trustee on the Tom Leedham "Rank and File Power" slate and a huge advocate for women's rights, livable wages, affordable healthcare and competitive pensions for the working families. She was also a huge contributor to KQED, the SPCA and various animal rescues and organizations.
Kimberly is survived by her daughter, Erin T. Shanahan, grandson, JoeJoe and granddaughter Gabby.
