On Sept. 14, REACH and I Love Cal City joined forces for a successful fourth-quarter community cleanup, focusing on revitalizing the Dollar General parking lot area. From 8 to 11:30 a.m., volunteers worked tirelessly to beautify and enhance the space. In addition to this main effort, various groups and organizations tackled other important areas across the city, with significant efforts directed toward removing large items from notorious illegal dumping sites.
The success of this event was bolstered by numerous contributions. WM generously provided a dumpster to collect and properly dispose of the accumulated trash, while the Chamber of Commerce supported the initiative by offering the use of their building and supplying essential items like vests, pickers, gloves and trash bags. Marilyn Giovannetti, president of the Desert Rose Garden Club, and her team diligently cleaned the kiosk at the town's entrance, exemplifying their commitment to maintaining the community's appearance.
Wills Junk Removal played a crucial role by handling the heavy-duty waste, ensuring that all large debris was efficiently removed. Safe Haven Kids League provided water to keep volunteers hydrated throughout the day. The efforts of Mayor Pro Tem Ron Smith, Quiana Spears with Girl Scouts Troop 982, and Jessica Rojas with Boy Scouts Troop 413 were also instrumental in the day's success. Additionally, West Best Pizza offered a discount on pizzas, fueling the volunteers and adding a touch of appreciation to their hard work.
"It's wonderful to see the residents of our town come together for a common goal. We want a nice place to live," said Beckie Vasquez, co-founder of I Love Cal City.
These quarterly cleanups are vital for maintaining a clean, safe and inviting community. They not only improve the appearance of shared spaces but also foster community pride and encourage collaboration among residents. By taking ownership of their public spaces, volunteers make a lasting impact and contribute to a healthier, more resilient community.
