T-hacha-P mural gets touch up

On Sept. 14, Make Art Tehachapi, a nonprofit organization affiliated with the Tehachapi Valley Arts Association, gathered a group of artists to restore four murals.

The participating artists were members of the Tehachapi Valley Arts Association, Tehachapi Arts Association, Tehachapi Community Theatre and Tehachapi Signs. They dedicated their efforts to preserving four historic murals by clearing debris, removing vegetation and cleaning the three Centennial Murals located on Tehachapi Blvd. before sealing them. These Centennial Murals were created to honor and commemorate the 100th anniversary of our town.

The artists also focused extensively on the T-hacha-P mural on the side of the Apple Shed. The varnish had completely deteriorated, necessitating a thorough cleaning of the mural before it was sealed. After allowing a few days for the varnish to cure, the artists returned to touch up the paint that had been damaged by the sun. Once the paint had cured, it was sealed once again.

Make Art Tehachapi's upcoming project will involve repairing and refreshing the mural located next to the VFW in Tehachapi.

Artists included Susan Palm, Jill Davies, JR Long, Lyn Bennet and Jeanette Pauer.
