The Apple Drop is a fun activity that takes place during the Tehachapi Apple Festival on Oct. 12-13, in Downtown Tehachapi.
On Sunday, Oct. 13 at 4 p.m., a large bin containing 1,000 squishy foam apples will be hoisted up in the air, and then dumped onto a huge target in the street. It is quite a sight to see, and when the apples finish bouncing, the apples landing closest to the bullseye on the target win some wonderful prizes!
For just $10, you can purchase a ticket that will secure your apple in the Apple Drop and give you the chance to win! The top prize is a Walmart $1,000 gift card and there is a $500 Home Depot gift card for second place. In addition, there will also be other prizes awarded from local businesses.
The Apple Drop is sponsored jointly by the Rotary Club of Tehachapi and the Tehachapi Lions Club. Tickets are available from any Rotary or Lions Club member, and the clubs will also have booths to sell tickets during the Apple Festival. Much of the proceeds from the Apple Drop go toward community service programs in the local Tehachapi area, including scholarships for graduating seniors, sponsoring students to attend leadership training, awards programs and books for elementary students.
The Tehachapi Rotary Club meets at noon every Thursday at Kelcy's. Rotary is committed to "Service Above Self," and devotes time and resources to projects in the local community, scholarships for college-bound high school seniors and supporting global efforts for polio eradication.
