Celebration of Life: Sandra Lea Nelson, October 21, 1943 – September 15, 2024

Provided.

Sandra Lea Nelson.

Sandra was the sixth child born to parents Leslie William Crews and Rachel Carson Crews, residents of Roscoe (now Sun Valley), California. The family moved to Little Rock, California when Sandy was 3 years old. She went on to be a graduate of Palmdale High School in 1961.

Sandy married Allen Nelson of Palmdale, California in March 1963 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Family and friends attended the ceremony with Sandy's brother Norman being best man and Dorothea Zoller as bride's maid. The honeymoon was the beginning of a lifelong love of travel, visiting Frazier Park, Lake Tahoe and San Francisco. Scenic road trips crossing the country would be a regular family activity throughout their life together.

Along with ownership in several businesses in Palmdale, Sandy's professional career included 19 years as an elementary school librarian in the Palmdale School District. She took joy in holidays, decorating the library and even dressing up as a clown every Halloween for the children.

Truly a dedicated Los Angeles Dodger fan, once even winning an essay contest to be an honorary "bat boy" for a game. Following the Dodgers, Sandy spent 10 years following the team spring training in Vero Beach, Florida and 10 more as the team spring training moved to Glendale, Arizona.

Sandra's hobbies and relaxing time were spent enjoying road trips, listening to Elvis, reading and puzzles. She enjoyed spending time with her family above all else. Sandra had a deep faith that she always found comfort in.

Sandra was preceded in death by her mother Rachel Crews, father Leslie Crews, sisters Catherine, Patsy, Marie, Dorothy and brother Paul.

She was survived by her loving husband Allen of 61 years; her son Doug and wife Rhonda; son Phillip; son Steve and wife Tina. Grandchildren Keith and wife Stephanie; Samuel and wife Chelsea; Shannon and fiancé Victoria; Steven and wife Morgan; Emily; along with great grandchildren Lily, Ronin, Kayden, Aubrey, Layne, Briar, Ava, Saylor, Rylee, Sydney, and Kyle.
