12-Year-old student arrested for making threats of school violence

Tehachapi Police Department

On Sept. 25, officers of the Tehachapi Police Department were made aware a 12-year-old student at Jacobsen Middle School had made several threatening posts on the social media application Snapchat, targeting Jacobsen Middle School.

The posts depicted an airsoft firearm and stated not to show up to school, insinuating a school shooting was going to take place. During the investigation, it was determined the student did not have any weapons available to carry out the threat and stated to law enforcement it was a joke. However, based on the seriousness of the threat the student was arrested for making criminal threats toward a school.

The Tehachapi Police Department would like to reiterate to our community that the Tehachapi Police Department takes these threats seriously. Threats toward schools or causing harm to students will not be tolerated. These threats are not a joke, and each parent is encouraged to take this opportunity to talk with their children about the consequences and ramifications of making these type of threats, and usage of social media accounts.
