Alvin J. Aronson Jr., 86, passed away in Tehachapi on Nov. 2, after a long-term illness.
Alvin (Patrick) was born in Southern California on March 17, 1938. His parents, Alvin (Sr.) and Ina Mary Aronson lived in the San Gabriel Valley all of Patrick's childhood, finally settling in San Gabriel. Alvin graduated in the first class of newly minted San Gabriel High School in 1956. Soon after graduation, Patrick enlisted in the United States Navy, served four years and was honorably discharged in 1960 after traveling much of the world.
In 1961, Alvin became a firefighter with the City of West Covina. In 1991, he retired from the rank of Battalion Chief after 30 years of service. After retirement, Alvin, his wife Diana and son Kevin moved to Tehachapi. They built their "forever home" which overlooks the train tracks and has a view of the Tehachapi mountains. They have lived in the community for over 30 years.
Alvin loved to hike, ride bikes, watch trains and eat good food. He also loved to read non-fiction and through the years collected many books. Every July, he faithfully watched the Tour de France and was very knowledgeable about all the current and past riders and champions. In the early 1970s, Alvin joined the Lions Club service organization and served faithfully for almost 40 years.
Alvin and his wife Diana loved to travel, spending many of their holidays together riding trains, and cruising in later years.
Alvin is survived by his wife of 45 years, Diana; and three sons, Trenton Aronson (wife Jennifer and daughter Amanda), Travis Aronson, and Kevin Aronson (wife Tara and daughter Lyra).
He was preceded in death by Trent and Travis' mother Dana Marie Aronson and both his parents.
Funeral services will be on Friday, Nov. 22 at Wood Family Funeral Home on F Street in Tehachapi. Please notify family members if you plan to attend the service as space is limited.
Interment will be private at Tehachapi East Side Cemetery.
