On Monday, Nov.11 at 11 a.m., a crowd gathered at the Bear Valley Springs veterans Memorial site at Cub Lake to commemorate the veterans who lost their lives in service to their nation.
The event opened with a welcome introduction by the current BVSVA Commander, Lee Tharp. After the “Pledge of Allegiance” and the “National Anthem,” the invocation was given by Bill Kritlow, immediate past commander and chaplain. Then Martin Hernandez introduced the speaker, Ildefonso Colon, AKA Poncho. He retired as First Sergeant in the USMC and is a Purple Heart Recipient. He encouraged us to go forth and be active.
As there were no names put forth for the commemorative pillars, the service was short. It closed with a stirring rendition of “Amazing Grace” by Travis Combs on the bagpipes.
To all veterans who are still with us, thank you for your service.
