Old and New Friends, Sharing Christmas

The TALE: Tehachapi Art, Literature and Entertainment

Books are my friends and the characters within them hold precious memories. While some people use Advent Calendars to usher in December, I use picture books. I collect my old and new friends together with their holiday additions and let them usher me into the season. From Charlie Brown and Winnie the Pooh, to Madeleine and Dr. Seuss, Clifford the Big Red Dog and the very mischievous cookie mouse, I treasure our first meetings and our ongoing adventures.

More recent additions like Llama Llama, Grumpy Monkey and Bluey add their antics to Christmas joy. Fancy Nancy and Pinkalicious offer more glam and glitter. The Crayon series color the holidays bright and Stickler shows us Christmas in nature. The Elf on the Shelf brings the fun right into our homes. The crazier the antics the better!

What can be more joyful than to be drawn back into the magic of the holiday season by picture book friends, old and new. The characters touch the child within and encourage us to let that child out to play throughout the holiday season. If we are lucky, playing can linger, clear through to next December. Fun? You bet! Do you remember the song "Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver and the other gold?" The season is bright. Joy to all! Good Books. Good reading.
