At their Nov. 21 meeting, the Board of Directors of the Golden Hills Community Services District honored Director David Shaw with a Certificate of Recognition. Shaw is stepping down after serving on the Board for nine years.
Shaw, who was elected to the Board in 2016, did not run for reelection in November. The commendation noted that it was during his tenure that much of the work was done on the rehabilitation of the district's water wells as was the development of the Masterplan for the Golden Hills Nature Park.
General Manager Chris Carlson reported that Freestone Renewables, the company contracted to construct the district's solar fields, cannot get permits at this time. According to the CPUC, the applications cannot be submitted until the fourth quarter of 2025 and were asking to an additional 24 months on their contract. The Board voted 3 to 1 to allow the extension. Joe King was the dissenting member. David Buckley was not present.
Carlson also reported on the success of the "Ghoulden Hills" Halloween event that was held at Meadowbrook Park in partnership with Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Park District. Carlson said that about 4,500 people attended making it about double the size of last year's event, bringing in people from Mojave and from as far away as Barstow and Oildale.
