Understanding the Power Gateway

Dr. Theresa L. Smith, D.C.

Some days, it's really hard to get out of bed. You might not feel like doing anything or feel like you have no energy. I've had days where I wanted to stay in bed all day. But, because of the animals, I had to get up. Sometimes, we just need a day to rest. But if you feel like this every day, it could be a sign of depression or physical exhaustion. It might also mean there's a blockage in the Power Gateway. Let's learn more about this.

What is the Power Gateway?

The Power Gateway is in your lower back, where the five vertebrae of the lumbar spine are located. The nerves in this area affect your lower back, colon, prostate and uterus. If there's a blockage here, you might experience low back pain, disc problems, digestive issues or reproductive troubles.

How chemical stress affects the Power Gateway

Chemical stress can also cause problems in the Power Gateway. Chemical stress comes from:

• Cosmetics, perfumes and skin/hair care products.

• Smoking and drug use.

• Plastics.

• Water.

• Gardening products.

• Household cleaners.

• Processed foods.

These chemicals mess with our hormones and body functions. Over time, they can build up in the spine and cause blockages. Many people have some form of arthritis or joint problems, but not everyone feels pain from it. Why? It could be that having more flow of CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) helps reduce the pain. There's research that supports this idea.

Why blockages cause problems

Blockages put stress on your nervous system, leading to dis-ease and pain. This is your body's way of telling you that it needs real food and movement. The body can only handle so much before it gets overloaded. If you ignore the signs, your body will keep getting louder until you listen and make changes.

For example, if you get a headache, what's the first thing you do? If you take a pill, you're not treating the cause, just the symptom. If the headache is from stress, you'll keep getting more headaches until you figure out what's causing the stress and change it.

If you eat something that gives you gas, constipation or diarrhea, what do you do? Do you take a pill so you can keep eating that food? Or do you stop eating that food?

Listening to your body

We often take our bodies for granted and don't listen to the warnings they give us. Maybe it's time to start listening, paying attention and giving your body the nourishment, movement and help it needs to get your flow back!
