Save the date, don't miss this Audubon celebration

Audubon meets for the first time in 2025 at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28 at Golden Hills Elementary School. You won’t want to miss this.

We are celebrating Carol Gates! She has been our leader for the past 14 years, organizing speakers, planning outings and more, all in a warm and welcoming manner. Joan Cote and myself hope to continue her tradition as she has mentored us with her careful organization, endless enthusiasm and knowledge of this community. Carol, we will celebrate you and your service with gratitude.

We also have a great program scheduled on Water Birds presented by none other than “bird encyclopedia” Bob Barnes. We are thrilled to have him visit from Ridgecrest. Bob will also be leading a bird walk on Wednesday, Jan. 29 starting at 9 a.m. at the Tom Sawyer Lake parking area. We will continue on to Brite Lake depending on consensus. How great to be able to practice what we learn on Tuesday evening.

For the program Tuesday evening bring your smart phones. Bob will be using the e-bird app as well as other online media birding applications for identification of his topic birds.

All are welcome, you do not need to be a member to attend. The program is free. We will have a “bird” related raffle and refreshments are provided. Tehachapi Audubon, part of Kern Audubon Society, meets quarterly on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Golden Hills Elementary School, 20215 Park Rd., Tehachapi, and meetings are 1 to 1.5 hours long. Outings are scheduled based on interest.
