Tehachapi's Online Community News & Entertainment Guide
It's been a wonderful 12 years, but all good things must come to an end. Sheridan's will soon be closing.
It has been both rewarding and fun helping people find new homes for their treasures, as well as helping others create beautiful spaces in their own homes. Shopping with my daughter for new merchandise to add that eclectic touch has built many great memories for the two of us that I will always treasure. The friendships I have made with my customers, and knowing what a special place this has been for so many people, has meant a lot to me.
I first opened Sheridan's in 2013, after retiring from teaching at CSU Bakersfield. We were unable to find a location to rent on Tehachapi Boulevard, so my husband, Bill, and I remodeled a portion of Kelcy's restaurant where Funky Junk is now located, adding the large display window. Looking back, I can see that was the beginning of a number of downtown storefront re-modelings over the next 10 years.
In 2017, when the train store on the west side of Kelcy's closed, we took the opportunity to re-model that space as well, creating a new, larger location for Sheridan's. This space has been its home for the last 7 years. When Kelcy's closed soon after, we wanted to preserve such an important part of Tehachapi's history. We purchased the business and closed the restaurant while updating the kitchen. Kelcy's reopened in 2019.
It's been a busy and fulfilling 5 years, running both businesses. We still have lots of plans for how we want to continue to grow and improve Kelcy's. However, both of us also want to spend more time with our grandkids. Something had to give!
So, Sheridan's is closing Jan. 5. We will reopen the next weekend for a Giant Retirement Sale, Thursday, Jan. 9 through Sunday, Jan. 12 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. Everything will be at greatly reduced prices. It's bittersweet to say goodbye, because I have truly loved this business and all my customers. Please stop in and have some refreshments, visit a little and allow me to say thank you to all my wonderful customers.
Sheridan's is available for purchase, all or in part, including goodwill, inventory, fixtures, email list, rugs, display cabinets, a 16-foot GMC box van, estate sale tables, jewelry cases, collapsible display, clothing racks, etc. There are also several impressive marble topped cabinets and statement pieces, suitable for a business reception area or beauty salon.
Also available is the prime location on Tehachapi Boulevard next to Kelcy's Restaurant, and across from the Tehachapi Railroad Depot Museum. The space is 2,000 square foot of floor space, large display windows, back en-trance and parking. Available March 1. Perfect for a single retail store, multi-tenant marketplace or co-op.
