Dr. Chris Cruz-Boone, candidate for AD 32 visits with Virginia Sheridan.

A special election will be held on Feb. 25 for representative of Assembly District 32. This is necessary because Vince Fong was on the November ballot for two separate offices and cannot serve both. This made another election necessary. Dr. Chris Cruz-Boone is running for this office and Tehachapi Democratic Club invited her to speak at its January meeting.

Cruz-Boone was born in Bakersfield and continues to live there. Her parents, however, live in Tehachapi so she is very familiar with this community. She is married and has two school-age children. She has been a teacher for 20 years and was elected to the Bakersfield City District School Board in 2020. She became president of that board in 2023, a position she continues to hold.

Education, water and drug prevention are the top issues Cruz-Boone is focused on. As someone who has achieved success through public school, she realizes the importance of a good education. As a school board trustee, parent and educator, she has had firsthand experience with challenges posed by Sacramento's shifting policies. She is committed to championing policies that meet the needs of all students and teachers in each California community.

Clean, affordable water is vital to California's future. Some areas manage water resources better than others. Dr. Cruz-Boone thinks they could work together and share ideas, helping disadvantaged and rural communities to obtain clean and adequate water. At the same time, sustainable agricultural practices must be followed.

Drug addiction has ruined the lives of too many individuals and families. It has even become a problem in schools. Dr. Cruz-Boone has worked over the past three years to implement drug prevention programs. She vows to push for better resources and policies at the State level to fight the drug crisis.
