Year of the Snake: wisdom & rebirth

Jane Henry's "Year of the Snake," created for Healthy Hippie's Jan. 17 Paint Night.

Now that we have entered 2025, we cycle into a new Chinese Zodiac: The Year of the Snake, specifically the Wood Snake. In the Chinese Zodiac, your animal sign is determined by the year you were born unlike the western zodiac which is determined by the month you were born. Each year corresponds with a different animal in a 12- year cycle beginning with the rat and ending with the pig.

From a spiritual standpoint, the Year of the Snake offers great opportunity for transformation, introspection and healing. If the snake did not transform and shed its skin, it would die because the skin would become too tight for its growing body. This is also true for our spiritual bodies.

The snake is often seen as a symbol of wisdom, renewal and rebirth. When used with intention, these energies can guide us toward deeper self-awareness and growth, both in our personal lives as well as within our communities.

This presents us with a unique opportunity to reflect, shed old habits and embrace personal evolution – collectively and individually. This process of shedding is symbolic of letting go of old patterns, limiting beliefs and outdated habits that no longer serve us. This new energy can help us to reassess our goals, relationships and the direction we are headed. It's a year to thank the past for its lessons, let it go and make space for new growth.

On a community level, this zodiac sign emphasizes collaboration, patience and unity. Here at The Hippie, we aim to support everyone on their journey toward inner peace and enlightenment. We offer many events and tools to help you balance your energy and find clarity as we embrace this new year while holding space for all those who wish to explore their spiritual path and meet new friends! From online events like our Cosmic Community to our in-store events like our monthly Soundbaths or Singles Mixers, we are creating a network of like-minded individuals who are looking for support, inspiration and a sense of belonging. Whether you connect with us through the shop or online, the year of the snake reminds us that personal growth is not a solitary pursuit but a shared experience.

This Snake energy encourages us to look inward and understand our true nature. It calls us to slow down, reflect and make conscious decisions about the paths we choose. As we release things that we have no control over, we create space for new ideas, new opportunities and new connections. This is a time for introspection, as well as deepening our understanding of the world around us, especially in the context of a community that shares similar values and intentions. The Snake also teaches us to trust the journey, even when the path seems unclear. This year, let us collectively embrace the wisdom that comes from surrendering to the flow of life, affirming that EVERYTHING is ALWAYS working out for us.
