Tehachapi's Online Community News & Entertainment Guide
In 1973, a small group of people gathered together because of their concern for the preservation of important historical sites in Tehachapi. The group was composed of Del Troy, Debbie Troy Massey, Ed Sampson and Claudia Galloway Elliott. The first order of business was to establish a name. Claudia Elliott, a young reporter with the Tehachapi News, suggested the organization be called Tehachapi Heritage League.
Claudia Elliott graduated from Tehachapi High School and went on to study journalism at Cal Poly/San Luis. She returned in 1972 to work as a reporter for the Tehachapi News. She spent her career as a reporter, an editor or a journalist at various locations in California and Oregon. She married and raised a family while continuing her career. In 2022, she returned to Tehachapi as a freelance reporter for the Tehachapi News and continues in that position.
Because of Claudia's long-time interest in history, she was urged to accept a position with the Tehachapi Heritage League. At the recent meeting of the board of THL, she was elected as third vice-president. Her specific duties are outlined by the board.
The position of 3rd vice president was open because of the resignation of Judy Reynolds who has served THL for 18 years and been a board member since 2009. She will continue to serve as Docent Coordinator. Kerri Esten, THL President, expressed appreciation for Judy's service and her continuing commitment to preserving the history of Tehachapi.
THL maintains the Tehachapi Museum and the Errea House at 310 S. Green St. Both are open Saturdays and Sunday from noon until 4 p.m. Further information is available at http://www.Tehachapimuseum.org/.
